Wrought iron patio furniture is one of the best choice for sturdy and heavy outdoor patio furniture. Wrought iron made from round or square iron that are heated over a very high degree flame and then molded into various shapes. Because its made from iron, you can expect it to withstand most weather elements without deteriorating. However, wrought iron furniture is very prone to rust, and if you dont take good care of it, you wont be able to enjoy the maximum company of your wrought iron patio furniture.

Painted versions of wrought iron furniture in the past is more susceptible to rust spots. You can even go one step further and say any furniture with a powder coating dealt with the same issue. The good news is you dont have to worry about it as much today since most of the newer versions have a protective covering to prevent rust. However, rust is inevitable over time. It is important that you remove or deal with any rust spots as soon as you find them to prevent further damage. If you have acquired an older set of wrought iron patio furniture, then you might find it to your best interest to sand down the entire piece and re-paint it. By doing this, you will avoid having to do touch-up jobs every so often.

The process is easier than you might imagine. All you need is a wire bristle brush or a little sand paper and you can start to sand down the rusted area. If the furniture is already painted, you will notice loose paint chips starting to come off, this is normal. After you have sanded down the rusted area, paint over it with enamel paint. At most home improvement stores you can find paint specifically designed for wrought iron patio furniture. Keep in mind that any scratches or chips in your furniture will only cause rust to happen more frequently. If this occurs, simply follow the same steps as you would use to remove the rust. You also need to keep track of scratches. If you dont there will be rust that develops and it could spread if left untreated.
