It also has a high resistance to bacteria and fungus. Cedar tree also contains organic compounds called thujaplicins. These compounds give off the easily identifiable cedar aroma. This scent acts as a deterrent to insects, keeping cedar furniture free of infestation.

Typically, a red cedar log is divided into two sections. The white part nearest to the bark is called “sap wood,” and the inner, red section of the log is referred to as “heart wood.” Both Red and White
Cedar wood is exceptionally thermodynamic. The cellular structure of the wood creates interior air spaces that increase the insulation value above that of most woods. Therefore, outdoor furniture made of cedar stays much cooler than furniture made of other materials. It is about 80% the strength of oak, but with much more resistance to bacteria and fungus. Wicker furniture is a furniture that is made from a Wickering process. Wicker is the process of weaving natural materials like willow, rattan, cane, bamboo into various patterns, in this case into a furniture. Wicker furniture is made from weaving interlaced slender branches around a frame and molding it into desired shapes such as tables, chairs, bed or sofas. Wicker furniture is usually made by hand to get a better and accurate results. Mostly they are made by countries in Southeast Asia, naming Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and others. The smooth surface and clean lines in wicker furnitures were considered popular in the Victorian era.

Wicker furniture can be classified into two categories: loom woven and synthetic wicker furniture. Loom woven wicker pieces use natural materials such as rattan, cane or bamboo. These materials are dipped in resin emulsions to form a moisture resistant shield. On the other hand, synthetic wicker furniture are wicker pieces made from hand-woven polyethylene, fiber glass or resin, a material that resembles natural wicker and is washable, waterproof, colorfast, and ultraviolet and frost-resistant. Although wicker furniture isnt too hard to maintain, because it doesnt attract much dust, it still needs a form of maintenance once in a while for long lasting life span and usage. You should regularly vacuum or dust it on fixed period of time, like maybe once a month. That way your furniture will be looking as good as new everyday. Use furniture polish when necessary. A layer of lacquer should be applied for restoring its finish.
